Sugriva sends four divisions of his army to the four different corners of the earth in search of Sita. Hanuman and Angada are part of the group that has gone southward. Hanuman has with him the signet–ring of Rama. They learn from Sampati, the brother of Jatayu, that Sita is in Lanka. The vanara warriors express their inability to cross the ocean and reach Lanka. Inspired by Jambavan, Hanuman becomes conscious of his enormous strength. Standing on the Mahendra hill, the son of Vayu increases his stature and flies to Lanka. Though many obstacles come in his way, he survives every trial. As soon as he reaches Lanka, he resumes his normal size.
