Hanuman now shrinks to the size of a cat and starts searching for Sita. He enters the Asoka park and sits on the branch of a tree. There he spots Mother Sita under a simsupa tree, in the midst of many rakshasis. At that time Ravana approaches Sita requesting her to be his wife. Sita gives a big ‘no’ as reply to Ravana. Further she asks Ravana to fall at the lotus-feet of Rama and seek his forgiveness. Ravana returns burning with anger. The rakshasis try in vain to change the heart of Sita. Fed up with life, Sita thinks of committing suicide by hanging. Trijata, a noble rakshasi, warns other servants of Ravana against tormenting the saintly Sita.
The messenger of Rama then narrates sweetly the story of the son of Kausalya. Sita is pleasantly surprised. Hanuman now appears before the princess of Videha and hands over Rama’s signet-ring. Sita showers her maternal affection on Hanuman and gives him her crest jewel to be handed over to Sri Rama. Hanuman assures Sita that the Lord will soon destroy the rakshasas and rescue her.
