Sri Rama liberates Kabandha from the curse of Indra. Kabandha requests the Lord to go to Rishyamooka hill and seek the help of the vanara prince Sugriva in fighting Ravana.
Rama then visits the asrama of an elderly tribal woman Sabari, who has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Lord Narayana as promised by her guru Sage Matanga. In the presence of Rama, Sabari sheds her mortal coils and ascends to heaven.
The princes reach Rishyamooka hill. Sugriva’s minister Hanuman speaks to the princes, understands their problems and introduces them to Sugriva. Sugriva was unjustly driven out from his home by his elder brother Bali. Sugriva promises all help to Rama in rescuing Sita, and in return Rama promises to liquidate Bali and crown Sugriva. The vanaras produce before Rama the ornaments that Sita had dropped in to the forest. Rama presses the ornaments to his eyes.
